Business TripCOVID-19Kunshan
Come to think of it, I have joined Wistron for almost four years now. I remember that one week after I first joined, I started my very first business trip. I was so looking forward to it and set out with great excitement. In the following years, I have had to go on business trips to China around 50 percent of the time. Our colleagues in Kunshan foundry have been very supportive. They have always tried to help out as best as they could, especially when I am not in the foundry. Their assistance is imperative in fulfilling many of the customers’ requirements. I have gradually come to accustom to the way we work together.
The most interesting part about working on overseas assignments is the opportunity to make small trips to different places and experience different cultures and lifestyles. The hardest part to get used to is the internet connection. The restriction imposed by the firewall in China makes it hard to connect to websites that I use at work back home. I am resorted to using VPN for connection, which can be unstable. In the past two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our working trips have been vastly affected. Apart from taking into account the quarantine time, much of our schedule in Taiwan has to be adjusted, despite it having been planned well ahead. Also, I have to deal with the worries of my family and friends, as well as my own insecurity of whether I would catch the disease. Nonetheless, I have to account for all of these variables and make plans as best as possible to focus on my assignment overseas.
Many may associate luxurious hotels, exotic gourmet and mileage awards with working trips, or fantasize about communicating with foreigners in fluent English and earning the limelight. It is true that one or all of the above may happen. However, more often than not, these are just products of fantasy. On the contrary, learning as much as possible during these trips is the most crucial thing.
Actually, last year, when I first found out I had to go on a business trip, I was upset and quite worried, after all, the global pandemic was still grim and my family was against the idea.

Actually, last year, when I first found out I had to go on a business trip, I was upset and quite worried, after all, the global pandemic was still grim and my family was against the idea. I thought about it and contemplated why the company asked me to due to the necessary business expansion. After thinking it through, I found that it would be a good opportunity for my career as well. While thinking positively as much as possible, I tried to persuade my family to let me go. After the project was finished, I could also pay my parents a visit back home.
Interestingly, this time, I got to go to a metropolitan area where I had always wanted to but never had the opportunity to-Shanghai. When I started working, I had the desire to go there and get started with nothing. But for some reason, it did not happen and I had to give up. After this business trip, I had more yearning for the place. The thing I could not get used to the most was not being around my family. I could not have dinner with them. But then, after the project was over, I could get together with my aging parents.
My experience overseas allows me to develop a product and its manufacturing process from a practical point of view. Not only must I design the framework of the product during the development process, I also had to take into account the practical application of production. It is helpful to my development process in the future, as I can also take into consideration the feasibility aspect during the production. During these business trips, the process of providing support has not only enhanced my experience, I am also able to foster a closer relationship with counterparts that I have been liaising with remotely.
After weighing the pros and cons, the overseas business trips have actually provided us with many advantages.

I was assigned to do Research and Development Substitute Service, so I had to stay and work for a company for three years. Therefore, choosing the right company was my biggest concern. Wistron is an international corporation. It has a good pay structure and extensive welfare and comprehensive organizational culture, systems, and protocols. This would allow me to learn different aspects of a company. I thought Wistron would be a good choice as the first stop of my career in cultivating my working capability and soft skills. For technical staff, Wistron indeed possesses an environment that can shape my hard skills.
In Wistron, there are many opportunities where you get to collaborate with people from different units, even international counterparts. You get to work together to create value and learn how to coordinate with others while polishing your own professional skills. Apart from keeping up to date with the most advanced technology of various industries, Wistron is also an important driving force in the technology localization process. I believe that working in Wistron would be helpful for cultivating one’s professionalism, technical caliber and market sensitivity.
Of course, as a newbie, I had come to realize that things were not what they seemed. When I first joined, I was clueless and followed the rules that I learned as a student, and that is, I did as I was told. Whenever I encountered a technical problem, I just went ahead and put in the time and effort to resolve the problem. But I always ended up wasting too much time and effort without getting any result and failed miserably. Just a gentle reminder-when you come across a supervisor willing to spend the time to guide you, do not let the opportunity go to waste! I started to learn how to work “smart” in problem solving. I learned to think independently, propose a solution, evaluate the risk, set the stop loss point, report the bottlenecks promptly and actively, discuss with colleagues about the countermeasures and change strategy when necessary. Gradually, my supervisor was comfortable in giving me assignments and a good working environment was thus fostered.
In two months, my substitute service will end. Somebody asked me if I was going to join another company. I said no because Wistron has given me so much. I have not really digested what I have been learning for the past three years. My journey in Wistron shall go on. I shall stand by Wistron and grow strong.

Destiny has brought me to work at Wistron, and it was my first time entering the “manufacturing” industry. I was able to borrow my PMO position experiences from leading the research and development team and apply to the newly established “WiMSAI Research and Development Center”. 6 team members and I have been wholeheartedly devoted in the discussion of Wistron AI’s broadness application. My RD partners have also done a fantastic job over the year, presented actual output results, and gradually promoted it to special projects’ needs.
Actually before joining Wistron, I had also worked in posts in the industry, government, school, and research fields. I thought with my capabilities, I could easily blend into my new job. But with the variance in industry attributes, everyone’s original background and logical thinking are all quite different; it really made me suffer during my first year. Thinking back, the process was really tough, but after seeing the results today, like how this following philosophical saying points out, “There is no such thing as a free lunch; no pain, no gain,” I realized that hard work would pay off one day.
A hot topic over the recent years is – “Would girl power in the primarily male workforce face more issues or challenges?” I think there are no absolute answers, and it’d all depend on your own values. In a field that males dominate, gender has actually allowed me to go beyond my own difference. I have been advantageous with respect to my soft attitude and rounded skills, and I’ve also created a complementary relationship with my male counterparts. I believe that to become an all-around talent, regardless of men or women, everyone should possess the capabilities of professionalism and problem solving, as well as a disciplined and rounded personality, so that we can stay successful in the roles we are pursuing after.
At Wistron, one can collaborate with professional cross-field talents and discuss all kinds of techniques, market, and professional knowledge in other areas; they are all challenging and sometimes interesting daily routines. Along with the company’s fine policies, internal research and development resources and experiences are shared across departments. It’s truly a very different experience. From my point of view, as long as one can match a suitable occupation and find a boss whom he or she can collaborate with, whether they are rookies or experienced staff, female or male, they would definitely all be able to find their own stage to shine under Wistron’s nurturing.
“It’s easier said than done?” As long as the direction is correct, do it first, gather your courage and just do it!

Before I finished my graduate studies, I was fortunate to participate in an internship program in the finance industry. When I was searching for my first job, my primary goal was to try a profession in a different field. Through meeting colleagues or supervisors from various backgrounds, I thought I might be able to help myself gradually discover my own career path.
Also, in addition to my specialties from graduate school, my current job responsibilities also encompass additional challenges. For example, I’ve chosen to continuously increase my knowledge per the needs of special projects or daily business affairs. For me, it’s a great opportunity to prompt myself to enhance my skills. And I also aspire that I’d continue to absorb like a sponge, internalizing this knowledge and meeting the company’s expectations of my respective office position.
I think the most rewarding thing for me while working at Wistron is thinking outside the framework of textbooks and integrating with the company’s approach in practice. Professional knowledge from textbooks is definitely crucial, but there may be flexible adjustments that can be made in different companies. And at Wistron, I’ve also gradually learned to possess more flexible responses in different scenarios in addition to based on the principle of academic knowledge.
For me, the ambiance of an organization or a team is an extremely critical factor. If I were to introduce a colleague or a friend, I’d especially mention the lively, yet also professional, working environment here.
At Wistron, colleagues might be working closely with one another on their projects; and the lively working environment would not only allow yourself and your colleagues to share the sense of achievement after reaching your goals, it’d also positively impact your own mindset while resolving obstacles, helping you to more calmly think over your troubles in hand.
Newcomers in the workforce are usually fairly estranged with their working environment, and a lively working environment will help ameliorate their nervousness so that they can fully actualize their capabilities.

Sometimes I feel that fortune really favors fools, even though I didn’t have such a smooth experience in my first job, I didn’t give up. I decided to start all over again from the very beginning and changed my career path. Very luckily, I joined Wistron. Even though my new responsibilities are of a different field from my major in school, and I was certainly feeling nervous, my curiosity to discover a new area had prompted me to move forward. Thanks to Wistron’s comprehensive educational training system, rookies were led to instantly absorb the company culture and be integrated into the team. It has allowed me to more confidently and passionately devote myself in my work, as I develop my professional life in Wistron. “With regards to passion towards one thing, it doesn’t begin from trying but from familiarity.” After joining Wistron, I upheld this belief as I carried myself through the bottleneck period. Now it’s been one year since I joined Wistron, and I am still very much enjoying it.
Wistron has been planning ahead and devoting itself to digital transformation. During this nearly one year of time, I’ve learned the applications of many digitalized tools, such as Power BI, RPA, and O365 Power Platform. I’ve also gone beyond the default operational procedure and thought about how to improve the operational methods and to enhance efficiency. Furthermore, I’ve also met many colleagues who are understanding and friendly, seniors who like to share their knowledge and experiences, co-workers who support each other and collaborate with one another, as well as supervisors who are willing to trust and delegate to the staff. Success doesn’t necessarily make a person feel happy, but happiness will allow people to succeed. I am grateful that I am in a team where people cooperate with and help one another. It has expanded my horizon and will help me harvest a career with more extensive possibilities in the future.
I’ve once heard a quote, “In many cases, you have to first empty yourself before you are able to learn.” I believe that one can encounter unexpected matters through work, and Wistron has always improved ceaselessly and pursued excellence. It’s similar to an eagle that keeps flying because its child is still learning how; only through continual breakthroughs would there be a chance for new knowledge to flow in. Each rookie’s flying journey may be different. At Wistron, we are allowed to freely explore methods to coexist with the unknowns, discover different sides of us through the process, and create our own values!

I remember that after I graduated from school, finished my military service, and first entered the workforce, I was eager and ready to show the skills I learned in school. But I didn’t realize that what my company required me to have was knowledge from all-new fields. Being an office rookie (fresh in the sense of my liver as well), I believe that it’s extremely important to humbly seek advice from senior colleagues. Most of the seniors I’ve met have all been willing to share their mindsets, as well as communication and response strategies. “I got to familiarize myself with the all-new environment and obtain a lot of information in a short amount of time,” I said to myself. Only by setting aside my prior skills and status would I quickly adapt to a different environment. And the resources that I’ve gained may also be applied to my professional fields in the future!
Through continuously absorbing professional knowledge and expanding my horizon, I realized that my horizon had been too limited. Graduating from school is not the end of learning. Everyone has to continually learn and improve throughout their lives to reach higher; views at higher altitudes would also be different.
At Wistron, my supervisors have given me whole new direction and opportunities for technical research. The company has been ceaselessly innovating, and I’ve also been continuously improving, discovering new interests from my job. As work and interest are combined, then it’s not easy to feel tired from work. Further, as our knowledge grows and surpasses others, then no one could easily threaten our status. Never be scared of learning and challenging yourselves!
From student internship to formal employment after graduation, I started at the bottom in Wistron and have since worked my way up. I am now a proud homegrown Wistron employee.

Wistron is a big tech company and vastly reputable in its field. Many leading global information service providers and businesses are clients of Wistron. When I was in school, I already knew that many products that I was using were produced by Wistron’s foundries. When I found out that my college and Wistron were engaged in industry-academia cooperation, I tried to talk to the relevant unit for an internship opportunity. Wistron is a leading technical service provider (TSP) in Taiwan. It is not easy to pass their recruitment process. At that time, I thought if I could do my internship in Wistron, after graduating, the knowledge and experience that I had gained during the internship should be helpful to my job application to Wistron. I was honored that my performance during the internship was recognized. After the internship ended, I was promoted to a full-time employee.
As a student doing an internship in Wistron, my biggest accomplishment was joining Wistron as a full-time employee and continuing my service in the Company. My job scope involves a variety of product testing. From a noob, to a savvy employee who is able to write a testing report independently, there are many helpful colleagues who have been generous with their guidance. Therefore, I have been able to grow quickly and efficiently. Nowadays, I am trusted with running a whole set of testing assignments to satisfy specific requirements stipulated by customers. I am most grateful for the help and guidance I have received in Wistron. From an inexperienced student to a savvy full-time employee, the process has been gratifying.
As the leading tech giant, Wistron is immensely generous with its employee in every regard. Not only the salary aspect, employees are also able to enjoy flexible working hours. They can decide their own working hours within the official time frame. If overtime is required due to large orders received, overtime payment will be made in accordance with the Labor Standards Act. Every two months, a celebrative birthday party will be organized. From time to time, there will be afternoon teas. The bonus and allowance are generous as well. The welfare that an intern gets to enjoy is almost as good as a formal employee. It is gratifying to work in Wistron. The best part of Wistron, in my opinion, is that it has a great working environment with good facilities. Our colleagues are very friendly. Coming to work is not merely about making a living. It is about an endless learning process. Wistron is a great place for those with career aspirations. I am proud to join Wistron. Our Company is actively cultivating new talents. Our colleagues are generous with sharing their knowledge. As a result, I have managed to gain vast knowledge and experience. From student internship to formal employment after graduation, I started at the bottom in Wistron and have since worked my way up. I am now a proud homegrown Wistron employee. In the future, I shall make more contributions to give back to Wistron for making me the person I am today.

When it was confirmed that I would be assigned overseas, I felt both excited and somewhat anxious. I was about to embark on an unknown but new exhilarating environment. Although I had studied abroad, but it was the first time I would be working abroad. The destination was Guangdong, China, a place that spoke my language but had a slightly different culture. When I set out on my journey, I had countless imaginations to fill in the information gap, including different simulations for anxiety and circumstances. But when I thought about being able to step out of my comfort zone, the reward of self development and challenging the unknown future, my anxiety about the assignment overseas began to subside. On the contrary, I started to look forward to it and felt quite joyful.
As the destination of my assignment was Zhongshan, Guangdong, the most interesting part of the city was the Qijiang River bank near Xingzhong Square. There were stalls that set up tables and chairs and served beverages. Chilling out and gossiping with friends by the river bank and chit-chatting with colleagues who were also assigned here while having a cup was splendid. We got to talk about the hardship we faced at work and the reward we reaped. We could also encourage one another and share stories. This was an exotic experience that would otherwise not have happened if I had stayed in Taiwan. However, when the Cantonese rinsed the cutlery, plates and bowls with boiling hot water for disinfection in restaurants, I knew it was something that I had to get used to. Probably after living here for a longer period, I should be able to.
Having worked in Taiwan, I have got accustomed to the way Taiwanese communicate and think. However, the differences a foreign city presents in terms of culture and education content would leave a different impression. More often than not, working overseas requires more patience in communication to ensure that both parties understand the correct message and accomplish the common goal. In the process, there may be conflict and disagreement. In this regard, it requires more effort to reduce and minimize differences. But once you get through the process, working overseas rewards you with a different kind of growth. No matter where you are assigned to, it is an experience and test. Learning to collaborate with others when you are away from home and cultivating your capability in looking after yourself are the skills you pick up. Wanderers will always go home one day after they are worn out. But before they are, experiencing the trial of working overseas will always bring you different memories.
